I have 16 hp on a godevil that is about 3 years old, is there a forum that i could check to troubleshoot carb issues? THe gas is fresh and i use it often, its not a typical "Been settin' up issue. I took the carburater apart and the bowl was the cleanest i've seen it. It kills as if it is starving for fuel. The fuel pump is working.
It could be an ignition issue. Pull the plug and make sure you're getting a goot hot spark. I have even had brand new champion cj8, or the new j19lms bad out of the box. So I'd at least put a new plug in it.. Also check your points.
The ignition should be a CD pack and have a 5yr warranty on it. (I believe that's a full unconditional warranty too.)
That 16hp a twin or a single cyl?
Assume you've changed the fuel filter?
Does it have a fuel shut off valve that got accidentally closed? Or a shut off soleniod?
they are fragile things when you remove them but if you've had to bowl off.........
Is it a Mikuni carb? What happens when you close off the air intake throat? Ok, that's engine running, air cleaner off, use two fingers apart stradding the air intake and start closeing your fingers. Does the motor clean up, level out, quit running rough?
I've had 3 of those 16 hp single cyl's. Never had any fuel starvation problems. They did have a design flaw, something to do with the crankcase ventilation/intake manifold.
About the time it's ready to have an oil change they start sucking oil in to the combustion chamber.
Ok guy's , dr999 what is you model, type, & code #'s I can help also what was it doing before this started & explane how long ago it started to do this ?
You sure do know how to hurt a little ford fellow. hee hee
Heh. I own one, so it's fair that I can rag on it.
Those Go-Devil's look pretty interesting. Makes me wish I didn't live in the middle of the desert so I could actually use one. The 27HP Kohler looks good.
Back on topic, I can't say that it is the problem, but it couldn't hurt to tear the carb apart and clean it. It is much easier than you might think if you've never done it before. I fixed our Kohler powered wood chipper that way and it was showing similar symptoms to yours.
