CB radio?

Has anyone ever run a CB antenna wire through the cab of a f-150 single cab? Can you help me?

CB radio?

When I purchased my 79 F-150, the guy had a magnetic CB antenna mounted on the upper part of the hood near the windshield. He had run the cable down thru the vents where your wiper washers are, and then thru a hole in the firewall.I have seen others run the cable underneath the weatherstripping in the door jamb, but it tends to get smashed by the door.I left mine the way it was........

Many of us have; best way is along the doorjamb and step plates, then out through a hole at the rear of the cab. Look around under the floormat at the rear of the cab to find one. Make sure you re-seal the hole when completed and protect the coax from abrasion where it goes through the floorpan. Good luck!!

You know I was going to try to mount the antenna on the hood, but it wouldn't stick. I am guessing that the hood is fiberglass or composit. I have a single cab and would hate to have a mag antenna on the roof. My though was to go to a bed mounted fiberglass whip. Have you seen anyone run wires out the back? Is there a hole anywhere? Thanks!

CB radio?

Some years ago I found myself installing CB radios in a half a dozen or so pickups, including my own 1990 F-150. What I found is that in most vehicles, running an antenna wire to the outside of the cab was pretty simple. If you look under the carpet behind your seat, you will probably find some rubber plugs in the floor. I ran my cable under the carpet on the firewall, across the floorboard, through the channel under the door sill, then back to one of the holes in the floor of the cab behind the seat. I removed the rubber plug, ran the cable out the bottom and then back up between the inner and outer walls of the bed, out the stake pocket in the bed and to the antenna mount on the front bed panel. The only holes I had to drill were for the antenna mount on the bed.

By the way, when you wire in your radio, add an existing fuse to the box if at all possible. spliced wires get nasty. Or, a good alternative is some clips sold at radio shack that clip on a fuse and allow a terminal end to be connected to an existing fuse already in the box.

Thanks! Where did you mount the radio in those 99 F-150s?

When I installed CB's with twin firesticks on the mirrors.
I ran the coax thru the firewall, then run the coax in the space between the fender and the hood over to the mirror mount and tape it to mirror mounting bars.

When I bought my '89 the ashtray had been removed, so I have a small Radio Shack unit in the recessed part of the dash. It fits pretty well, and you don't notice the large hole where the ashtray would have been. I also ran the coax cable through a hole in the floor behind/under the seat. It should have had a rubber plug in it, but it didn't, so...oh well. The cable runs up b/t the cab and bed, then runs under the toolbox, and then up to the antenna mount on the top/middle of the gullwing toolbox.

It isn't a professional job, but I only have about $900 invested in the truck right now, including the purchase price...but it runs as well as my Bronco
