New HPOP

I've been having a problem with my truck not starting when the motor is hot, so the dealer is putting in a new HPOP. What would cause it to go bad? Programmer?

Trucks a 2002 f250 and yes its under warranty. But is it possible a programmer can harm the HPOP.

Dealer replaced the hpop and it still died. What could it be?

Have you put a cam sensor in it yet?

It was the hpop. It would loose oil pressure. They said the regulator would stick open and let the oil pass through. IPR?

Now I'm confused. If it were just a sticky IPR, why would they change the whole pump?

Bad o-rings on the IPR will cause the oil to bypass and cause a hard start when warm. I guess if they were bad enough it could cause a no start.

Yeah I know. That's exactly what I meant....why did the dealer replace the pump for a bad IPR????

Yeah, I don't know either. At least it is under warranty, I guess. He asked something about a programmer causing the pump to go out. Hope they don't void the warranty and make him pay for it all.

I agree...the dealer must be looking for something to complain about, with regard to not warranting it, as its highly unlikely for any programmer to affect the volume output of the HPOP! The IPR is the only electronic part of the HPOP, and its of a very simple design in which no programmer should harm.

It sounds more like a CPS issue, or perhaps a burnt connector to one or several injectors! Or possibly an injector drive module (IDM) problem, as I've heard of a few of them going bad as of late!

Perhaps you could give us a little more detail as to how the truck was running prior to the problem? How does it start when cold?
When was the last time your oil was changed? Any possibility of oil foaming?

It sounds like the dealer doesn't have a good diesel tech and is throwing parts at the problem. It's not like a bad cam sensor is uncommon.
