I need the single dash speaker for a 1979. I want an original replacement, but no parts stores have it, Napa, Zone, Advance, Wal-mart etc?? Any ideas??? I was going to post this in the Audio forum, but they are talkin crazy stuff about subs and all that......
JC whitney carries them for a reasonable price. Also, LMC truck carries the reproduction speakers for the dash. Thy work great and all the ones I ordered from eeither ones fit perfect!!
Tried anyone on our sponsor list?? They help keep this site running
I have shopped for parts at most of the sponsor sites for several years, and most of them don't carry the speakers that was mentioned. One site I did mention is a sponsor. I am a loyal customer to about 4 of those sites, and they are great!
Old thread, I know. I'm replacing a bad dash speaker as well. How do I measure it? Or better yet, what is the measurement of the football shaped dash speaker on a 73 F100? I'll also put in a pair of door speakers, other posts mention 6 1/2" speakers for the doors, are those round speakers or football shaped as well?
Mac's Antique Auto Parts(a sponsor) has a stereo speaker housing that fits into the original dash opening without modification. The part # is 18808-1006, and the price is about $31.00
i dont know if youre interested but there is a speaker out there that fits the stock location but has 2 small speakers built into the same package. its supposed to give some pretty good sound versus a single 5x7. i think i saw it in custom classic truck magazine in the sponsor section, or maybe in a catalog. im sure someone else has seen it also.
But does it come with the special *Latching system Bracket* to be held in place ?
or
are you going to just try installing it another way ?
I'm not really sure. I didnt know any special bracket when I took it out but i'm 100% sure that this is a factory setup. The only thing special I see on the speaker itself is a plastic screw receiver, 2 total, 1 on each of the long sides of the speaker. The JCW speaker looks to have holes in the same spot.
Sorry if i'm a little audio stupid . I've never had a reason to replace a car speaker until now. The radio in my truck is an AM only Philco so I dont need anything fancy dancy.
If this JCW isnt the correct size, what is my best bet? LMC has a replacement, but its around $50. Should I just get the factory radio reconed?
