From what I learned from extensive reading in various websites and message boards, the Sylvania Xtravisions are the exact same bulb as the Silverstar but don't have the blue tint on the glass. The light intensity from the Xtravision is higher than the stock bulb due to a higher output, overdriven filament, but operates at the same wattage as the stock bulb. And despite being identical in construction, the Xtravision's intensity is higher than the Silverstar since the latter's blue coating cuts down on the total light output by filtering out the yellow spectrum of the total light emitted from the filament. This is what produces the "whiter" light associated with the Silverstars. Most people perceive this "whiter" light as being "brighter," when in reality it usually is not the case. The subjective nature of light brightness accounts for the large variation in opinions regarding Silverstars or any other blue-tinted aftermarket bulb. Some people say the difference between stock and Silverstar is like "night and day," while others say they see little difference in brightness. Light intensity, on the other hand, is objective and quantifiable using a light meter.

From this info, if you want the most light intensity for your money and don't care for the trendy "HID" look, the Xtravisions are the way to go. The run about 1/2 the price of Silverstars. But keep in mind that the higher output filament in both the Xtravisions and Silverstars will reduce bulb longevity when compared to a "stock" bulb. Here is a quote, taken verbatim, from Sylvania's very own website...

"The life expectancy of a SilverStar halogen light source is dependent on the driver’s use of the lights, which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. We estimate the SilverStar halogen lights to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions."

The life expectancy quote is interesting. I run 9005 bulbs in my stock fog lamps, and they seem to only last about a year. I always chalked that up to the fact that Ford uses crappy Visteon supplied lamps, that let in a ton of moisture. My headlamps (visteon as well) do not "fog up" and have 2 year old Silverstars still burning, with a hour nightly drive.

I haven't personally used Silverstars but a lot of people seem to love them. I have used Eurolite Super Plasma and Fareheit bulbs. The Eurolites were pretty bright and definately better than stock. I was running these on my Accord though not a Ford. I liked the brightness of these lights but the low beams burnt out in aproximately 2 months. Since they had a 1 year warrenty I got them to send me another pair. I put these in figuring I just got a bad pair since they claimed to last longer than stock bulbs which lasted me 6 years. Well I put these in about 2 months this set had also burnt out. My high beams have lasted me over 2 years *knock on wood* and are still working but the low beams kept burning out. I ended up putting stock bulbs back in there. After a while I decided to try some Farehiet bulbs. They are definately better than stock and are a bright white light not blue but white maybe still a hint of yellow in the day but not like stock but not blue either. You can see more with them and they definately are better than stock. I have only had these a few months so don't know how long they will last but so far I like them a lot. I wouldn't recomend the Eurolites since they burnt out so quickly but would reccomend the Farenheits. A friend had Eurolite Crystal in her Dodge van but she had the 80/100W ones which I don't reccomend as they will melt your wiring and maybe your housings. Hers burnt out fairly quickly but did last almost a year not quite. They were pretty blue. She now has Sylvania Cool Blues in there which she says arnt quite as bright but are a whole lot better in the rain. You can barely see in the rain with the blue bulbs. Thats why I would reccomend the white ones as in Fareheits or Sylvania's. I would reccomend the Eurolites had they lasted more than 2 months a set. Cardomain sells Eurolites though for a fairly cheap price of $14 a set and Crutchfield sells Fareheit bulbs and for Sylvania bulbs your local wal-mart of auto parts store should sell them.

Only thing about these brighter bulbs, is that some people find them too bright and 'flash' me while I'm burning low beams.
