I just got a quote from a shop (not a dealership) to replace all the hoses in my 1994 4.0 Ext. Eddie Bauer 4WD for $780 including parts and labor. This just seems like a lot of money for this job. I realize it's hard to get to all the hoses with the cramped quarters, but $780? Can someone tell me what they have paid to have this job done? The van has 152,000 miles and the guy at the shop was tellng me the hoses looked original and were starting to get brittle.
If he is going to use Ford heater hoses he could be right on with the quote....If memory serves me correctly, I was going to replace the front and rear heater hoses on my 90 Ext, and the hoses alone were close to 300 bucks.....
Those original hoses are far more durable than you would think. Albeit anecdotal evidence, mine have over 237,000 miles logged and all are original save for the lower radiator hose. That was replaced just recently when the radiator failed.
That price is pretty on the money for OEM hoses escpecially if you have the auxillary heating unit since it operates on its own core and the hoses are pretty long.
Plus he has to make it worth his while with the labor if the hoses are not OEM then he is making big profits be sure to ask if the hoses are OEM and get a straight answer.

scrap the qd hoses and run bulk hose and only if you really need it.
you should save about 700 bucks. it's not hard, surf this forum for tips like I did and like I've posted. I've replaced my heater hoses, heater core, rad and lower rad hose. Did it myself and the cost was minimal compared to your quote. Also, I would get a second opinion on your "brittle" hoses.
