I know this is not a truck, but can anyone help? I have a 99 Ford Windstar, which won't move when shifted into gear. It had no signs of transmission wear and tear. I was driving and suddenly it just reved as it were a standard vehicle. I've had some people mention it was the torque converter. Some people mentioned it was also a cv shaft, which it's not. Has anyone had similar problems?

Have you found out anything on it yet?
Windstar transmissions aren't exactly know to be trouble free
If the fluid level is ok in it then unfortunately you're probably looking at a replacement or overhaul.
A failing CV joint would make grinding noises, especially around turns, before it fails. When it fails, it will probably rattle a lot. And your speedometer will still register speed even when the car is stationary.
If that's not it, it is a transmission problem. Does the car move with the transmission in any of the gear selector positions? I once drove a car whose shift level was so loose that it was very difficult to put it into a gear and have it stay in place. Also, you should definitely check the fluid level.
Sounds like it stripped the Splines in the torque converter. One of the vans I bought the guy said that he was diving home and stepped on the gas to pass someone and the engine revved but the van didn't go anywhere. He coasted over to the side of the road. He could shift it to the gears but the van wouldn't move (forward nor reverse).
I bought the van and found the stripped splines. But since I went through all the trouble of pulling the transmission I just rebuilt it.
