Muffler......

My '63 with a 292 blew to pieces today. Actually, it was the muffler falling off at 30 mph on a rutted iced road, it just sounded like it blew to pieces.

I need a muffler, I still have the crossover pipe, dont plan on getting rid of it. I was thinking just a plain glass pack. I like them because they are small, light and durable. Being on rough gravel roads all the time, I dont like too much hanging below, they fall off pretty quickly, no matter how many hangars you have.

Thoughts.......?

I like SMITHY'S MUFFLERS. I ran one on a 56 with the cross over and it sounded real good and not too loud but loud enough!

Smithys are great, I agree nice sound. If you are not wanting to spend too much, I would suggest using them. IMO, the typical glasspack has a generic and overused sound and except for pitch, they sound the same on most trucks. I have also experimented with about 4-5 other mufflers if you're interested in something else. Let me know.

Oh....I best just go to Napa and get a glasspack. By the time I get something shipped here, it will be more than I want to spend. After all, I will be about the only one that will hear it.

I went to the local Mom & Pop muffler shop and had the guy install a one into two muffler. Think it was a flowmaster clone. Ran it out behind the rear wheels on an angle pointed down. Looks good, sounds good and at $200 for the whole shooting match from manifold to chrome tip it fit my budget and allowe dme to keep the crossover pipe which generates some talk at car shows.

Just a thought.
