i have a 1991 f-150 and would like to install a loud muffler on it. any suggestions of a specific brand/type that i should get. i dont want a racecar sound, just a deep, loud truck muffler that is sure to turn heads. thanks
no muffler that is the cheapest way that is what i got and it is nice but i also have a 3in catback and k&n filter so that sure makes it louder and wakes it up a little. but if you need muffler to pass inspections get a glass packed muffler
i have a 1992 f-150, i went to dual flowmaster exhaust and headman headers....... made an enourmous power difference and it sounds amazing...... id say go with a 30 or 40 series flowmaster muffler.... its fairly cheap....are you looking to run a whole new system, or just slap a new muffler in there????? also... headman makes drop in headers that require no new exhaust manipulation, just bolts in..... big sound from new headers/could also remove your catalytic converter.... make some difference
I have a single inlet/dual outlet flowmaster 40 series. It isn't loud at all. Sounds good, but is too quiet. Would a glasspack louder than the flowmaster? If so, what size, brand, etc?
glaspacks, are well good, and i think its louder than a flowmaster, but if not just turn it around so the luvers are going the wrong way and then it will be louder, a flowmaster however is defidently a truck sound, along with a glasspack, however if its a straight six a glasspack will sorta make it sound like a tractor, but a good tractor thats for sure! i would go with a glasspack personaly if your looking for the cheap route, you should be able to get one of those for under 20 bucks, and they sound good, but a flow master is more like 60+, all depends, i have a summit muffler single in dual 3" out, and its basicly a oval glasspack, and i love the sound, simple yet, well truckie, if thats even a word,
our buddies prices here are mixed up. flowmasters run over $100. Glass packs usually around 60 bucks. your glasspack will be louder, guarunteed. the straighter your entire exhaust pipe is, the louder. I wouldn't recomend the removal of your catty converter. sometimes messes up your computer's backpressure and causes drivability problems. nothin serious, just a loss of power, maybe some stuttering. it's true about the tractor sound on the straight 6. lol, it's even worse if there's an exhaust leak. I had a buddy in that situation. Flowmaster 40 series sounds the most classy/loud. if you want a tough sounding truck without being obnoxious, go with the 50 series. most people get tired of their obnoxiously loud sounding trucks after a while anyway.
dang where you been buying stuff....Autozone has flowtech glasspacks for about $20 and some autozones actually have flowmasters in stock and they are usually around $60 - $80 depending on the muffler. Don't really know about oreillys, my transmission is screwed up too much to drive to the nearest one.
I had a new exhaust system installed last week at my local muffler shop, (private owned, not a chain store). I have a 97 F250 HD 4X4 5.8, They installed a Flowmaster with 3" in and out, a new 3" pipe from the converter to the muffler and a 3" single side exit tailpipe, it totally changed the sound to a deeper tone and it feels like it increased the engine response. The best part is that the total cost was only $172.00 dollars for a turnkey job. This shop has been in business for over 35 years and believes in giving the customer a quality job at a fair and honest price.

I dont know where your bying your stuff, but you may wanna start buying it somewhere else, i paid 15 bucks for a glasspack from VIP, a local parts store, and 14, for one from jc whitney, and summit has the 40 serries for 82.95, a little more than 60+. they also carry glasspacks, Depending on which one you want, a thrush 2 1/2 in/out is $18.88 (PN WLK-24214) and Flowtech Red hots, 2 1/2" in/out $17.95 (PN BIG-50252) They also carry there own brand, Summit 2 1/2" IN/OUT 24"long $24.95 (PN SUM-630815) so the most expensive glasspack still being less than half of what your paying, just thought id let you know FghtinIrshNvrDie, i didnt get mixed up, sorry.

WHoops, forgot to sy what i really wanted to say, A glasspack would sound really good on your truck, but without the cats it would sound better, i would personly go with a flowmaster, they will also help draw more power from your truck with the scavaging effect they have, but whichever way you go i think youll be happy, the motor will sound good breathing through eather one.
