You can find iron 4bbl intakes for 2bbl heads on ebay. A fella in Portland, OR sells them.
My recommendations for cheap upgrades;
Get the Australian closed chamber heads. Get the Australian iron 4bb intake. Use the stock Ford Duraspark distributor found on later 460's. Recurve this Duraspark distributor for a non-EGR engine. Keep the original cam.
You can get big power by tuning your engine. Degree the cam. Recurve the distributor, make sure the carb is jetted correctly. A dyno-tune is your best bet, but you have to start with an engine that's healthy.
The FMX transmission isn't popular, but it is strong. It's found behind 390's, 460's and hi performance 351C engines. It's not weak.

problem with the aussie 2v heads is they are only 59cc chamber so will raise the compression even more than it already is, not a good idea for a street driven vehicle.
yes the 351m/400 heads (there is no M after 400) are pretty much the same as the 351c 2v heads with the exception that they have a smog bump in the exhaust port that should be ground out, and some porting on the exhaust side will make them completely the same.
No the stock 4v intake will not fit 2v heads the ports are very different, and you will need to change the exhaust anyway so put some headers on it. The pistons should be fine unless they are dished then they might makeit pretty low on the compression at which time then maybe the aussie heads wouldn't be so bad.
if it's really a 70 quench engine it would be a crime to separate the heads from the engine, but at 11:1 there isn't much else you can do if you want a daily driver on pump gas. Cleveland 2V open chamber heads will give 9.4:1 according to Tom Monroes chart, but figure a little bit less. just about perfect for a performance/driver.the aussie heads will increase the CR above what it is already, and may even cause piston/chamber interference issues? if you want the ignition to look "old school" and also work, you can put in a conversion module from Pertronics, Crane or Mallory. if you do go with the 2V heads, edelbrock has just come out with a new intake for you too. just in time! Page 3 for photo of the actual intake, Page 4 for an engineering drawing of the heads.
That Portland, OR seller of Australian parts has one of the iron 4bbl intakes that fits American 2bbl heads up for auction on ebay. A very reasonable option for $70 plus shipping.
Any ideas how much a port job would cost me on the 351M heads? Cause if its too much I might as well try to find 351C heads...right?
I found this intake:
Intake Manifold Ford: 351M/400M with 2V Cleveland heads, non-EGR, dual plane, square bore flange, aluminum, Performer Ford: 351M/400M with 2V Cleveland heads, non-EGR, dual plane, square bore flange, aluminum, Performer intake manifold
This Edelbrock Performer intake manifold for Ford 351M/400 is a dual-plane, low-rise design with a 180 degree firing order and patented runner design that you won't find in competitor brands. This design provides torque over a wide rpm range, especially off-idle through mid-range. It also provides improved throttle response over a stock manifold.
In take Manifold Ford: 351M/400M with 2V Cleveland heads, non-EGR, dual plane, square bore flange, aluminum, Performer EDL2171
el muerto, the 2v heads will work great on a street motor, I have the 4v heads on my street rod (31 ford) with weber carbs and i spent cubic money to get these things right. I runs like a scalded dog but you need to buy the right stuff and all of it. there are 4v intake manifolds available fot the 2v heads that will give you a little extra power and if you want to at a later date those manifolds will take a throttle body FI setup. hope this info is a help
