Check the large fuses in the distribution box under the hood. Sounds like blown alt. fuse.

many thanks, LxMan1, did that all fuses are good. i'm really stumped, all i did was disconnect the battery to clear a code, hooked it back up and alternator went bad, bought a new one, installed it, still nothing, i guess the new one could be bad as well, any more suggestions, i am no rocket scientist when it comes to this kind of stuff. many many thanks.

Make sure all your battery/alt/starter connections are free of corrosion and tight. If you can get your truck down to autozone get them the check the charging system.

hi everyone, pulled the new alternator off this morning, took it to autozone, they checked it the alternator is putting out voltage. not sure where to check next. all connections are tight and corrosion free. once i get it back on i guess i will check the 175 amp mega fuses. if anyone has any more ideas please let me know.

hi everyone, ok, followed some good advice from this forum, and a tech manual i bought from autozone, found a bad alternator fuse. hard to believe a 20 amp fuse could cause so much panic in me. but if a lot of you are like me, that ol truck is my only transportation so i really depend on her. so after $2.88 for fuses and $192.59 for a new alternator we are back on the road again. it is comforting though to know that a site like this exists and so many people are willing to help. you guys are really great. shivan22
