Red face Horn blowing on its own.....

Well, this morning I'm down at the station filling up for a little road trip today, standing there next to the pumps, minding my own business, when, all of a sudden, for NO reason at all.................................

The horn starts blowing.......
WHAT THE.......................

People start giving me weird looks, and I fumble to the front of the truck and pop the hood. I quickly grab the horn relay and pull the plug . The sounds of silence. Now, it would not have been so bad, but I have one of those "super blaster" horns hooked up in with the std horn and it makes quite ALOT of noise.

I figure that maybe the relay has finally bit the bullet and shorted out. My horn is not wired thru the steering wheel so I know it's not the wiring in the column.

I guess I need to start poking around tomorrow night and see what happened. Some of the strangest things happen sometimes...

Be glad. Mine doesn't even like mid-grade. It's got to be super, and even then it likes the octane boost. I always have to kill mine in gear (C6), to reduce the dieseling.

Well, the '67 is just the stock 352 so it is easy to kill, but it still rattles to beat the band on anything less thatn 89 octane. I've never ran cheap in it since my old 302 used to diesel on cheap stuff. I figure a couple cents a gallon was not worth crying over.

Now, the '69 drinks Sunoco 94 like it goes out of style. I sometimes put a shot of 118 Turbo blue in the tank if I have extra from the race car. At near $5/gal I don't use too much.

. Ya, well there is a cutie that works there sometimes. NO, it did not look good for me having to rip the hood open to stop the horn from blowing. I always try to say HI to her anyway...

BTW, I found the problem. A wire got crimped under stainless trim and grounded so it actuated the horn. Simple fix once I found it.

What happen to my opening TITLE??? I think I've been attacked by cosmic muffies?? (or maybe a moderator )

Freightrain, The same thing happens to me with my truck. It has happened with the engine running and I am in traffic (very annoying) and when it is parked in my driveway in the middle of the night (extremely annoying). The steering pad was replaced and it was quiet for a few years, but now it is doing it again. I just disconnected the horns until I can figure it out. Does anybody have a list of things that can be causing this?

Gtex, Two things can cause dieseling, the idle is too high, the timing is too high. Try ideling it down first.

You guys that have to run mid grade, work on your timing or spark, there is no need to have to run mid grade gas unless your compression is 10 to 1 or above.
