Where else, if any do they put VIN #'s besides the sticker on the door and the placard on the dash. I bought an 82 F100 and the dash placard is missing and the one on the door matches the title but the guy I bought it from was a little shady and the sticker looks like it might have been just put on recently. I think someone had said the emmision sticker but that's gone also.
You might want to look for it stamped on the top of the frame rail, passenger side, between the radiator & the firewall.
They put it there during the 70's.
They also stamped it one the frame under the cab.
You might also look for Buck Tags(aluminium tags at weird places) on the truck frame, etc.
On my 82, it was stamped on the top of the framerail approximatley beside the starter, and just aft of the transmission crossmember.
On my 86, it's the same at the starter, but, at the tranny x-member it's on the side of the frame, on the outside. I attribute that to the 82 being a Canadian built truck and the 86 being an American built truck.
