New noises....

Hey everyone. I have some new noises. At lease I think they are new.

Today I made two modifications to my truck. I installed a K&N air filter and I did the relay modification that prevents your fogs from turning off when you turn on your high beams.

I doubt that either of these mods are makeing these noises but you never know. Anyway, with the hood up and the truck running, there is a loud clicking noise coming from the fuel rails on both sides of the engine. Do all our trucks do this???? They probably do I just never noticed before.... The other noise is a loud wind noise from the front end. I also think this is normal because I usually dont drive without my radio on but I did today to see if I can hear a difference with the K&N. I did put my stock filter back in to rule out the K&N and it is still making the noise.

FYI, my other mods include a Microtunner and a Daystar leveling kit.I'm sure I'm just being overly cautious but it never hurts to ask. Thanks for your input. By the way, I have a 2004 Screw FX4.

Its probably your fuel injectors. This is normal. I'd worry more about the rear end whining and clutch pack shudder.

Yeah, when my truck was at the dealer I had them listen for a noise, it
sounded like a loose heat shield. Well when the hood was up they looked at each other and said "damn those are some loud injectors". They where gonna look to see if there was a TSB on them.

Exclamation Checkout For Yourself

Guys Guys Guys you don't know the BS that sounds like. Is that story I see your from dealer in Calgary. My guess is that if you are hearing a noise that dealer says is "Loud Injectors" my guess would be you are being "Hosed" I bought New 04 end of model year @500kms it starts knocking. Am told it is noisy injectors. I don't buy it. Been around equipment most of my life sounds like bearing bottom end noises. Long story short Ford's new Cam Phasers. Ford had MAJOR PROBLEMS with thier new technoly for operating 3 valves. Poor excuse for not building a true DBL Overhead Cam Engine. Cam Phaser uses a Freaken Bi-Metal Spring to activate. I thought I had seen the last bi-metal spring in auto-chokes in the late 70's. Dealer tears into my new engine @ 1000kms and into my Trans solinoid pak is hosed and i digress as I can go on and on and on. I have owned this truck 14days and Ford has spent in excess of $4500.00 in warranty all ready. I swore I would never again by a Ford (hence the name) after my expiereance in 1988 my 1st Ford new F250 4X4 S/C 5spd XLT. But 17 yrs later "gees" no one to blame but myself. Anyhow I am new to this forum stuff I was looking for Info about related expirances and found this forum. If antone knows of or has ideas how I can get out of this "LEMON" without losing my shirt I would appreciate reading about that. The list of problems and bad workmanship on my truck is staggering. It blows me away that it got past QA/QC @ factory level.
Thanks for your time

Exclamation Same Noises

I too purchased a new 2004 at the end of the year, after a few miles the clicking noise from the engine was so loud I took it to the dealer, they installed the cam kits, I had to take it back a few weeks later because the noise had gotten worse, this time they said they were unable to fix it. They gave me an invoice that said "unable to fix at this time, new TSB to be issued regarding the problem and a fix will be out in late March." There was going to be a new cam phaser kit out at that time that was suppose to fix the problem. I was told to bring it back in two months. So here I am sitting with a 6 week old truck that Ford has said they can not fix but to bring it back in two months.

jidell:

Thankyou for responding. I spoke to the service manager where I bought the truck. He had the Ford Factory Rep At the shop today (monthly tour). What he told SM was that FORD WOULD FIX IT AND I HAD TO LIVE WITH IT. What part of the world are you in? Obviously the info you got is up to date. Please if you will let me know where you are from. I know your pain man. How many mile/kms on your unit before the noises appeared? 500kms for me and Transmission soliniod pak was hosed also. Moulding lifting stereo speaker wind noise etc etc etc.
Thanks
Leon

I live in Georgia, the noises (not to mention rough engine idle) appeared shortly after I purchased my new truck (2004 SCREW 5.4L) I would say approximately
200 to 300 miles. What I have been able to gather is, the cam phaser kits replace a timing sprocket and also are designed to dampen the noise. It appears there is a problem with the sprocket, hence I also have the rough idle (timing issue?). In addition to all the clatter there also appears to be a slight knocking noise at the rear passenger side of the engine. The truck was built in Kansas City, on June 14, 2004. I purchased it in December new with 18 miles.
