I am installing a new head unit and have been researching the harness I may need. I am wanting to run the four new door speakers off of the new head unit only and not the factory amp. (or is that wise?) The head unit has a built in amp and should push the speakers fine. Whatever is easiest. I have 3 connectors coming in to the factory head unit now. Anybody have an idea what harness to use? Ive seen some scosche harnesses but I am not sure they will work. I have also seen where you may need another component if your head unit puts out more than 10 watts a channel. A little confused.....
I believe that they make a harness to by-pass the factory amp, but i would probably just run new wires my self and know that it would be right and not have to worry about any noise or interference. Not any easy job put woth it in the long run if you want to add an after market amp later. I would also replace the factory speakers if you go to the trouble to rewire and replace the head unit.
KY. Mike,
I have a 2000 expy.Eb with a Mach system. I installed a Alpine EQ and Power amp and still using the same factory head and sub woofer and cd player. It would be easer to fax you the wiring dig. then re-typ them. If you or any body else is insterested then let me know. Ps Get rid of the crap they call stock speakers that ship with the truck. I installed Kenwoods in the front and Alpines in the back.
I replaced the factory speakers with Kenwoods, and I have 2 amps and a bandpass box I intend to install with a new Kenwood deck. Just wondering if it would be best to run the 6x8s off of the deck, the factory amp, or run new speaker wires from a 4 ch. Kenwood amp I have. The deck has 50 watts max each channel (KDC-MP822). So I am figuring that that would be good enough for the 6x8s without installing the 4 ch. amp and running new speaker wires. All of this depends on the wiring harness and what can be done with it. Any help with a harness anyone?
KY. Mike,
If your new Kenwood head unit has line level output's, connect them to the input of your amps. I would not use the power amp output of your new kenwood deck, to me, that's why you are using power AMPS right? The speaker harness is easy. I indicated that I have the speaker wiring harness if you need that info?
