I didn't intend to "crap" on your thread. My point was that asking what oil a person uses is effectively asking for a debate over the virtues of the various products. I apologize if my input interrupted your poll.

Just a thought to all of you who use Motorcraft, who makes the oil because the last time I checked Ford is not in the oil business. That is why I stick to the big name refinery brands at least I know who made the oil.

Question

If it must meet Fords' specifications before it is put in the red bottles (and I believe it must) why does it matter who refines it ?

I much Prefer to use Mobil 1 0-20. However when i'm short on cash i'll use the Motorcraft Syn-Blend 5-20. I see identical mpg figures with the two but I honestly notice a diffrence in pedal too the metal performance. By the way this is with a 2003 ZX3.

On a side note I always change the Motorcraft at 3k. The Mobil 1 I'll stretch too 5k. Both useing Motorcraft Filters.

Conoco makes Motorcraft oils. The Motorcraft 5W-20 ASI SL has been a synthetic blend and the new ASI SM Motorcraft 5W-30 is now a synthetic blend. With proven used oil analysis these Motorcraft oils are a real bargain, especially if you buy them at Walmart. If you want more info check out www.bobistheoilguy.com . It's a wealth of "lubrication" info that supplements this great site.

I just heard that Wal Mart is going to discontinue selling Motorcraft products.

No more $14.88 oil changes for me.

If you will look closely, you will notice that the Motorcraft shelf space has been shrinking and the Fram space is expanding.

Riding a motorcycle, you sit on top of the motor/trans. You hear any engine noise. My current motorcycle is notorious for a transmission whine while accelerating between 40 and 50 mph.

Mobile1 dramatically reduces engine noise. That has to say something for reducing friction.
