I am Excursion owner that has a set of front leaf springs from a '02 F250 that I am interested in installing to lift the front of my ex. I am told I can get as much as 2 inchs of lift if they are the right springs.
My problem is I can't tell what code they are from the part numbers so I am not sure if they are worth dealing with. I am told you can only tell their code by looking at the placard on the drivers door jam. I got the springs for free from a local 4 wheel drive shop that installed a lift kit on the F250 and it is long gone. So I am out of luck checking the truck.
This is where I am asking for some help. If any of you Super Duty owners wouldn't mind I would appreciate it if you could check your trucks to see if you could match the part number I have and then give me the code from your truck. The part number for my springs is 2C34ACB. The part number on the springs in located towards the back of the spring, sometimes painted white. I know this is an unusual request so I appreciate any help I can get!
Code "U" springs are rated at 4800 pounds. That's not a very stiff spring. Most 250 & 350 diesel pickups come with code "V" springs which are rated at 5200 pounds. Most F-250 gas powered pickups come with S, T, or U springs, depending on options in the truck. My 03 F-250 regular cab pickup came with code "S" springs, which were rated at 4000 pounds. I put on a pair of code "X" springs (6000 pounds). That raised the front of my truck almost 2 inches, from the 4000 pound springs, and it still rides decently. I mainly did it for my plow--The plow prep package includes those "X" springs and a steering stabilizer. What front springs are in your truck now ??? Look on the vehicle certification label on the driver's door post and post your spring code here. I would say that each 400 pound increment in springs will probably raise your Excursion about 1/3 inch. The springs and codes are as follows:
S 4000 pounds
T 4400 pounds
U 4800 pounds
V 5200 pounds
W 5600 pounds
X 6000 pounds
If you aren't going to plow don't just buy the higher load capacity springs to raise your truck. The ride quality will suffer. I have a 1999 that came with 4400# springs and I switched to the X code springs. The front end is noticeably stiffer. Now I am looking into leveling springs that are not over rated for what my front axle carries - which isn't much even with 4000# in the box of a CC SB.
There are aftermarket extra leaves available. They are tapered single leaf design specifically for the F super duty. They have a 1000# capacity and add approx. 2" of addtional height.
