Radiator Support Cab Mounts

My F100 has a common rust problem on the frame rails where the radiator support's cab mounts bolt on. Does anyone have any pictures of their truck's frame rails? I need to repair the section so i can bolt the core support back on, but I dont know what it is supposed to look like. Hopefully someone has some pictures of their truck stripped down to the rails. If so, send them to me or post them here!! Thanks a lot

Take your sawsall to the junk yard and get a couple of straight, rust free frame horns and put them on your truck. Easy as pie and hidden so you don't need to finish the welds. Provides an opportunity to shorten the horns about 1/2 inch and move the bumper back a bit closer to the gravel pan.

Check mine in the gallery, but it's not a close up pic. Are yours completely destroyed?

There are two different animals your trying to ask about.
The cab mounts are the brackets that are riveted on the frame to support the cab.
The radiator support mounts to the front horns of the frame (usually oval holes in the tops of the frame rather than bracketry) to bolt the core support to.
If this is the area you are talking about, then you should heed Williams advice.
This is a pic of mine but not from the top view. If you still need a pic, I can get you one today or tomorrow.
The holes in this pic are actually not seen but they are right near the jackstands.

Sorry for the delay in getting the pics. My camera was at a friends house and it wasn't working properly until a little while ago.
Yes, my truck was a solid axle but has been converted to Mustang II. The frame horns are very similar to those of the 65-66 models.
Notice the oval hole in the frame rails. This is where the bolts for the core support go. They are about 4" front the front of the crossmember to the center of the oval holes.

If you need any measurements, let me know.

Bluestang...the original holes in the frame rails for the core support mounting are round....mine are twin I beam trucks as well....holes are about 6-9" back from end of frame rail. There are 2 holes on front end of frame rail for bumper mounting....this is same on 1/2 and 3/4 ton truck....I am almost positive its same on 4WD trucks....

If you can Blue...post a pic or 2 of the area in question.....

ill try to get some pictures up later. i have another frame in my garage that is in pretty good shape. the holes are only about 1-1.5 inches in diameter. on my truck (a heavily rusted MO truck) one of the holes is almost 3 inches in diameter and the other is not quite as bad as that. i think im gonna get out the mig and weld in a large washer or something when i buy the cab mounts. thanks for the help guys. FYI the twin I beam trucks are different than the solid axle trucks and likewise the four wheel drive and larger trucks because of their different radiator core support and bumper mounts.

Frame rails

Bluestang

My 65 had the same problem. Luckily the rail on the right side of the truck was in tack. I have a spare set of rubber support mounts I can get measurements from if you need them.

I had taken a square piece of 1/8" steel and cut the proper size hole and than cut a square hole into the frame to fit in the newly constructed part. TIG welded that sucker in and when I was finished it looked stock. But like I said I had one good side to work with.
If I remember correctly it was an odd sized hole and I used a boring bar on the mill to get factory size. I think it was 2" and 7/16" It doesn't need to be that close I was new to body work and wanted everything right. Looking back it would have been nice to have a little fudge room.

Good luck

jd
