64 discs and ps

A friend has a '64 F100 and wants to convert to discs and ps. He has been told, not be me, that the spindles from a later F100 will fit if you ream out the king pin holes on the axel. He also wants to box the frame and install a later model ps sector and tie rods etc. I don't see it happening this way but I'm open to thoughts and ideas. Also does anyone have the info for changing to an electronic distributor on a 65 v8? Thanks I await your thoughtful replies.

I will be watching this too. It would be great to be able to just replace the spindles, keep the straight axle and have discs on the front.

Do a search in this forum. There is a kit for discs on a 61-64. It involves later model rotors and GM calipers. 300$ or so complete, much cheaper w/o calipers or rotors.

As for PS, good luck and if you have good results, please post what you've done. The most succesful PS for 61-64 I've heard of usually involve a front clip transplant or frame swap.

Not sure if any help, while browsing the FTE 'tech article' section under 'brake systems' there is an article on 53 thru 64 brake systems. Have twin IBeam so did not take time to read article. May find helpful. Suggest also run search, topic has come up on number of occasions.

Don't know what skill levels your bud has, but there are more guys looking at moving the sheet metal over to a newer truck chassis and getting the upgrades for a lot less money.

The Pertronix is a direct bolt up and the Ford modual ign. is fairly easy for the ign. upgrade.

here is the site for the inexpensive disc brake conversion.
http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/early_ford_discbrake_conversions.html

Without too much effort you can buy the basic kit instead of the full kit and source the other items from parts stores (i.e. rebuilt GM fullsize calipers are in the $20.00 range INCLUDING paying the core charge... at those prices the junkyard might be more expensive) ( http://www.rockauto.com is one good source for shopping online)
