Talking TBI for 351??????

I own a 1980 Ford Bronco with a 351 windsor. I want to put throttle body injection (TBI) on the motor, however the kits are for GM's mostly. Holley offers the commander 950 in TBI but requires for Ford to have a 7-wire TFI on 1984 and later motors. I really would like to put TBI onto my motor, can someone explain what i need to put this kit from holley on, or tell me of another kit for this motor so that i can install TBI.
thank you

May I ask why you are so bent on a TBI? It's less efficient and makes less power than the standard MPFI that ford uses. I'd just find a donor truck (95 or 96 with MAF, make sure it's a 351) and get the whole thing. If you have a c6, or manual then get a manual. The 950 is way too much fuel for a 351... That system lives on built 460s, or 454s.

Edelbrock Pro-Flo EFI system. It is made for 1986 and earlier Ford and Chevy. Summit Racing Equipment sells them. They are definately pricey, but you get a lot of parts. The only thing is it is not tbi, it is multi port fuel injection, however they give you a custom prom chip tailored to your camshaft. There are too many extra's to list about this system. Check it out at www.SummitRacing.com

the add in summmits magazine for the holley 950 system saysan 84-up ford tfi dist. required to use programmable timing feature. since holley is supplying all the electrical stuff, it seems to me all you need to do is go to your local auto parts store and buy a ford distributor (84 - up 351W) with a new tfi-iv module and use your dist for a core charge if required. if your dropping $1400 for the system, another 80 - 100 bucks is chump change. the add also says you need a standard squarebore 4bbl intake manifold...hopefully you are already running a 4bbl or you may need a different intake. the 650 cfm throttle body should be plenty for a stock 351W. give holley a phone call and see what they say! i converted my 351W w/7200VV carb to late 80's ford mpfi. a local mechanic sold me all the parts and i spoke with him almost everyday for three months. this was in addition to reading a book by probst on ford efi, 1987-1993. since my truck has dual tanks, the fuel system was a major issue...and i ended up spending over 2 grand, but i have a good handle on ford efi now. best of luck

If you buy a donor truck (non running truck, with a blown up motor) from the junk yard, usually you will only pay ~$500, and just agree to give them back the rest of the truck.

i did not buy a kit, the mechanic had parts from an 88 ford f100 w/302 and an 89 bronco w/351 and a nearly complete wiring harness and computer. pfogle is correct, you can get all the parts from a salvage yard...lower intake from a 5.8L, upper w/throttle body from either a 5.0L truck/bronco or 5.8L (i think the uppers are the same) etc.etc...like i said, this is not a weekend project and took me a considerable amount of time, quite a bit of research and a mechanic willing to answer a boat load of questions. my truck does run great now, little or no improvement in fuel econnomy but extremely reliable w/ improved performance. and the 2k figure may be a little low...good luck, give holley a call and do some more research before you start dropping a bunch of cash...if you want to learn ford fuel injection the probst book is a great place to start.

^ 351 and 302 uppers are not the same - the bolt pattern matches, so they can be interchanged, but the ports are very different. It would be ideal to have matching upper and lower intake manifolds.
