[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Oct-02 AT 03:15 PM (EST)]Go to autozone.com or somewhere that will let you search for parts. I plugged in some cars and am getting different numbers for the flywheel and flexplate. You can't plug in a 74 truck because they don't list the 351 as an option that year. The difference in the balancers may be thickness and timing pointer location, so be careful there. The flywheel differences may be 157 or 168 tooth, which may not matter in your case since you are keeping the 84 flywheel with the 84 tranny. If the torque convertor/clutch bolts line up, I would use the flywheel, but the damper may require a little head scratching.
I know the flywheel will work fine because it's what i have in there now. The old motor came out of a '74 torino i think. It had a c6 and a flexplate in it so a that wouldn't work!!
If i remember right the '74 balancer was only a 3 bolt design and i need to 4 bolt for my pulley.
Does anyone know of a performance damper for my application cause I've heard of problems where they fly apart at high rpms. I was looking at a fluidamper but they were a bit too pricy for me.

Hey Evan, If you`re running high RPM`s you may want to invest in a fluid damper. My balancer flew apart on me because I had an oil leak and it caused the rubber to get soft and come out. Just something you might want to watch for. I thought my motor was coming thru my hood. I lucked up and found one for $20 from a friend of mine. I priced them and they cost about $150 (stock balancer) at the parts houses. I`m pretty easy on my RPM`s now , just for that reason. Use the save it untill I need it technique!! Good luck!!
