I have a spring pack that has a lift block obove the main pack with a spring on the block. I guess that is just a standard overload.I have a 78 f250 and I have no luck finding the bump stops that bolt onto the frame ans set down on the spring??Where Do I get stops ans how much$$$ are they?
I also have a problem with my main pack of 14 leaves the top spring is about 5" longer than the next longest and the top spring bends quite a bit and them it lifts up off the 2nd longest kinda like axle rap. i HAVE HELPER springs from O'reillys. They mount under the spring pack and connect to the longest "top" SPRING AT THE BACK by the eye and the sucre to the rest of the pack. It that going to work??
Thanlks
Dustin
The leaves in the pack should get progressivly shorter the first leaf under the main leaf shouldn't be too short where it doesn't support the main leaf you may end up with the main leaf bending upwards.
As for frame stops for the overload springs you can try retro fit ones off of a 80s truck you may have to drill some different holes. Its been a long time since I looked at a 70s frame.
What about the bump stops that bolt onto the frame for the top overload.
the end of the spring on the top the eyes Id guess you'd call them kinda bend down around the 2d spring(thier is a 5" spacing between the 1st and 2nd spring at the back) imagine the top leaf 5" longer than the 2nd longest. I "think" that the helper will work because all if has to do is keep the top spring from curling around the 2nd spring and that helper is short and very thick. It just has to be stiff enough not to let the top spring bend-pritty much just tie that end of the top spring to the rest of the pack
Look at the junkyard for F350 trucks, most of them came with the overload spring and frame bumpers. You may be able to get the part from the dealer too if you ask for them for a newer model truck. The factory overload will help your spring problem if you mount the bumpers low enough that they sit down on the spring before the truck squats too much. Sounds like either the truck is being overloaded or the springs are not the factory setup, or just worn out.
