ok.so i just got my flatbed/dump rack.the guy i bought it from just cut the frame and left the springs.cool too as it has 9 leaf spring pack, and an overload.as well as the overload bumps of course which i'l need.
so,although it is tempting to use the 9 leaf spring pack, and or rob 1 or 2 to add to mine,i really dont want to lose my ride.
iv read where some have used more than 1 overload spring.my question is how?
i mean, you have to use different length springs even for overloads dont you?
how do i go about this? thanks guys!
i want to be sure to just buy new U bolts once and not regret having enough springs than i'l need.but i do want to stick with just my stock main 5 leafs.
id like to add at least 4 overloads.can this be done somehow with using standard mains from these 9 leaf main pack even?
I have two-leaf overloads, the top leaf being the factory F350 overload, and the bottom one a thicker and somewhat flatter factory F-Superduty overload. Upon loading down the truck first the F350 leaf makes contact with the frame pads, and then the F-Superduty leaf. Ride is nice, not like a dump truck.
To bad the Motorhome is gone in storage. It's got 12 leafs per side, 3 or 4 over load springs on each side, i'd get a pic of it. (12 in total, including overloads).
interesting.
do you recall if the overloads where all the same or different lengths?
if all i need to do,is grab 8 overloads (well,6 i guess,as iv got two already) and just stack 'em,then thats easy enough.
i just dont know if thats all you need to do or not.
it appears most people just add mains i take it.but i know i can accomplish the same task and keep my ride when running empty.
also,i swear i saw a guy post up some pics of his rig with stacked upside down main leafs as overloads, but il be damned if i cant find the thread.this would be very cool,as iv got plenty of these now lol.
There is no benifit for them to all be the same length you will want them to get shorter just like your regular spring pack. I am a fan of air bags myself.
thanks Dave, yeah i just hoping to use used springs for overloads rather than buy a new overload spring pack.
i wounder if i took my 9 leaf main pack up to them,if they could rig up a custom overload pack when i buy new U bolts from them.....hmmm.
empty ride wont really change since im just looking for overloads, rather than adding any to the mains.
yeah,i'l probably look into swapping in hydroboost at some point before really hauling the big weight.
