I am thinking of purchasing a 1985 F250 4x4 extended cab long box diesel automatic. I have yet to see it because its about 5 hours away but I have seen pictures and it looks to be in good shape. My dad had virtually the same truck but in 2 wheel drive and was great until the body basically fell off of it.
What I am curious about is are there any things I should look out for with the 6.9? I have owned 4 of the 80-86 trucks so I am fairly informed about the trucks themselves just not the engine. Are there any tricks to boost performance other then a turbo? Would a dual exhaust benefit a diesel or would just a single 3" exhaust be the way to go?
The front end is a Dana 50 correct? How hard is it to put a body lift on the Diesels? What transfer case would be on this truck, An NP208 or would it be a Borg Warner?
I have almost exactly the same truck.
The front is a Dana 50 on the extended cabs.
The engines are pretty dependable. 83-Early 85's
had some trouble with cracked blocks around the
block heater. The glow plug system can be trouble
prone. Not too many other problems.
