If anyone has posted pictures of 302 install in F1 series half ton in their gallery, please let me know. I will be mocking up my 302 in my F47 this weekend, and would like to get an idea on motor height and positioning in the cavity. I've done numerous measurements, and rough placement before my IFS was complete. It looks as though the dual oil sump will sit directly over the Xmember, which will dictate height. I have the rad support but no rad, will be sourcing late F150 rad if possible or after market. Does anyone have measurement as to how far back of the support the stock rad sits (2"?). Is it best to place motor as close to firewall as possible. I have AOD and hope to use after market floor shifter, so "stick" placement will also come into play.
What influenced your decision to go with he 302 instead of a 351 or bigger like all the rest.
Because Tip is installing what he needs. Many of the others here are installing what they want. I love big blocks, but it is hardly required. There are dozens of guys here with 302s that are very pleased with the result. I'm going to pull mine in a year or so, and do a 351W stroker. Just for fun, because there is no logical justification for it whatsoever.
I can get you a pic of the engine sitting on the frame without the fenders. We just changed engines (read everything) and have not got the fenders, rad back on yet.
By the way I built my 302 with the heads reworked with the largest valves, and a mild cam. I have 320 horse and 380 tq. The cost at a local machine shop that builds a ton of engines was 2k.
'fenders here we go again with that 302 stuff.

"I drive a 'girly' 302 because, when I want to go fast, I go to work"
Sorry if we sounded defensive. We've been beaten up pretty good over the years. I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it. A stock 78 LTD carbed and smogged 302 engine can be a pretty uninspiring engine. But they have lots of potential, like most engines.
And I get about 3 months out a tank of fuel. Need to stop tweaking and start driving. Supernasts are coming. I do know I'm not getting 18mpg with 3.90 gears though.
