last time i posted up a ? for motor mount for my 429 going into a 81' f250 4x4 and i was told to check with a 460 motor mount and the guy at auto parts showed me a picture which it will look like and it dont look like the right ones... and i was told other things is a aftermarket adapter where can i find this ? i need the motor mount to start putting my 429 onto my 81' frame ..!!!! help everyone!!!
"We got the factory engine perches that mount to the frame. Then there are factory plates that fasten to the block its self, then your rubber mounts sandwich between these. I got all the stuff for an 83 F-250 4x4 which is the first year they offered the 460 in our body style."
Sounds like you are looking at the rubber mounts that the store would sell(this would be the only part that would go bad). But looks like you need several other brackets off a factory 460 truck 1983 and up that you will only be able to get at the junkyard or maybe the ford dealer.
yes the picture show everything i need but i only want the motor mount and yes the auto store did have the 460 motor mount for 83' f250 the first year they had 460 in these body style part # 2709 and is this the right ones? anfd i m not sure what u re trying to show me here .. still need better explaination!!!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Oct-02 AT 01:57 AM (EST)]On the picture where it shows the rubber insulators, the plates I refered to are the things that look like they have four bolts coming from them, and two nuts on the sides. These plates bolt to the block, then the rubber mounts fasten to the plates.
Have you changed your engine frame mounts to the 460 ones? These are available from Ford with no problem. 2 wheel drive and 4x4 frame mounts,motor mounts, engine mounting plates are the same part number. I spent plenty of time at my local Ford dealership figuring this out. And it goes together like a glove when you use the three factory pieces, frame mounts, motor mounts mounting plates. It seems like from 83 to 91 this stuff was the same.
You have to use the factory Ford engine mount plates to use the 83 factory mounts.
I may still have the box that mine came in to give you a Ford part number. I got mine from Ford with no problem, then purchased aftermarket rubber mounts. I actually had some pics I had taken of this assembly while installing it on my engine, I had taken them to show them to someone on here, I think it was million. I will see if I can dig them up for you.
so look like i have to change the motor mount mounting plate to a 83' f250 with 460? how much they run at the dealer? but at the picture above i have the same motor mount mounting plate as above? i think i m getting the idea of what u re trying to tell me so i ll go and see what i can find ... but #2709 is def the motor mount i will hae to go with to mount it to the motor mount plates?
This is the setup for a small block, what you want is the big-block version. Here's another view -

The frame mounts for SB engines fit behind the cross member, but the BB mounts straddle the crossmember, just like the ones for I6 engines.
Underneath the mounts, there should be a stamp that identifies what engines they are for -
In this pic, the mounts are off the frame and upside down;

this is the stamp under a set for SB V8 engines:

there should be a similar stamp on the bottoms of 460 mounts, and in this year group the frames are nearly identical - I know of no change that might affect this.
Scrapyards normally charge $50 a set for these, and the extra bolts from the passenger side mount in the donor truck can be used instead of the rivets in the one mount bracket.

Now - I could be mistaken about the mount location. It may BE behind the crossmember -
But it should still have an ID stamp inside it. Look at one at a dealership if you get a chance.
i think my only problem is the engine mount itself cuz i cant find anything that will bolt up to the block of my 429 yes ,the block?! it had different bolt pattern from the 351M i had i only need the motor mount in samne bolt pattern as the 429 but then with some kind of anchor on it where u bolt it up.. i m kinda making this harder am I i still dont get why i shd chnage the motor mounting plate cuz the picture show almost the same kinda motor mounting plates as i have on my truck right now ... but i ll be checking a few things first ..
