My 92 F150 XLT has the towing package on it, which means it has a transmission cooler on it. I don't know alot about these, and wondered how they work. Is there a way to turn them on and off, or are they automatic?
they are in constant use, as they are part of the cooling circuit. They simply add to the cooling effect, and do not need turned off. Basically the transmission lines run to the radiator to cool the transmission oil, and the additional cooler will help cool it better for the abuses of towing. The torque converter generates a lot of heat, and the cooler is there to remove it. They don't hurt a thing to run when not towing, either.
Thanks for the reply. I have another question. There is a black B&M 3 position switch located underneath the dash. I though it had something to do with the transmission cooler since it says B&M on it. Any idea what in the world it could be?
ShiftPlus simply recalibrates your transmission's hydraulic system electronically. The ShiftPlus shift firmness not only makes driving more fun and pleasurable, but slippage and heat are reduced - extending the life of your transmission! Anyone can install a B&M ShiftPlus in minutes with a few simple hand tools. This new design allows you to improve the transmission's shifting performance without removing the transmission pan or valve body. The B&M ShiftPlus electronically enhances shift quality and is adjustable. A simple flip of the switch allows the transmission to operate in the performance mode. Flip it back and you are back to stock!
I think it's just a big resisitor. If you reduce the current to the pressure control solenoid in the transmission it produces more pressure. More pressure means firmer shifts.
