I have a 69 f100 wit a long bed frame, no bed. I am goin to either purchase i fleetside or stepside, but i dont know which one would look better. Either way i want to put down a hardwood floor inside of it, a 20-40 gal fuel cell in it, and a toneau cover on it. any insight on which way would be cooler and which way would be easier and which way would be cheaper and which way would be more functional for the fuel cell(s)?

Both look good and will work, the stepside maybe be harder to find in the long box as most seem to be the shortbox, maybe more money so the choice is your preference in looks and of course your pocket book.
I have seen a couple long beds on fords but wasn't sure if it was really a ford box. I have seen more on the 60's Chevy trucks....how would one of them look on a Ford?
But are you guys saying that they make LONG stepside beds?
Any idea what company makes them?
Thanks,
Mike
I have a 59/60 F250 with a factory 8 foot stepside long box that looks orginal to me. This is the same design/style from about 53 till about 79 and looks cool to me on all these trucks. Wish I could post a pic but am unable to do so untill I learn how to do it.

Chevy parts don`t look good on a chev and not even a Ford can improve their looks.
yes ford made long step side beds (or flare side as ford calls it) and all but the fenders, including the hard wood floor and strips, hardware, and mounting blocks, can be purchased from MAR-K quality parts. they are very high quality pieces and if I had a desire to get a flare side for my truck that would be the way for me. as for a long wide bed (styleside as per ford's lingo) you can find good examples of these pretty much any salvage yard, just piece one together if needed. Ford NEVER put a wood floor into a wide bed truck, but MAR-K can help out with a conversion.
as for the fuel cell are you placing it inside the bed or under it? if inside, just get some mounting straps and secure it to the bed mounting bolts
i know these facts about ford, but i was just curious about the application, obviously extensive modification will be needed, i just wanted some input on my idea. I figure that an in bed fuel cell will be easier, and if done right will look cool, but an under bed tank will look cooler if i do accomplish a wood floor conversion into a step bed, do they make large fuel cells for my truck?

Most fuel cells that I have seen advertised are a universal fit.
FWIW
Check your local laws. It is illegal in the state of Texas to have an in the bed fuel tank that has a fuel line run to the engine. Yes you can have fuel in it and you can transfer fuel from the tank in the bed into the fuel filler for the truck or use it to fuel your tractor/airplane or whatever.

So you can have bolted under the bed but not bolted in it? I am glad that there are some really clever ? minds running the country! Probably the same IQ that mandate crushing old vintage vehicles. Helps me to sleep at night not!
