i owned a 67 f100 a few years ago and i missed it , great trucks i love how they look, now im going to look at a 69 in a few days is there anything i have to really look for in these trucks . its got a 390 and a 4 speed trans aperantly the floorboard and rockers and cab corners are solid so thats a bonus . one thing i know to look at is rad suport i know this shoudlnt make or break buying a truck but its somthing to look at also inner fenders is there anything im missing i should look for, thank you
you might check out the tailgate and the bedside seams. also where the hood hinges attach to the inner fenders, i think you covered that though. other than mechanical aspects: brakes, engine, tranny, susp. im sure somebody will post in with anything else. good luck ive got a 2wd 69 ranger.
Is the glass and weatherstripping any good? It will make for a cold ride in the winter. Does the heater/AC work? How well do the brakes stop and the steering steer? Are there any shady shop repairs done that you can find? Major leaks? Are the tires in good condition? Has this truck been babied or jumped off road? Just some things I look for.
hey you might also check to see if the motor smokes upon start up (usually valve seals) or smokes all the time ( bad piston rings ). maybe how much oil pressure it holds. this should give you an idea of what kind of shape the engine is in.
If the floOrs and rockers are solid, the cab mounts are probably OK, but check to be sure. On my son's truck, they looked good, but they rotted from the inside out and collapsed suddenly. The cab is resting on the frame now!
well looked at it the dirvers side floorboards have been done , passanger side is holy front cab mounts shot inner fenders shot all rust on box has been fixed already , everything works its being driven right now driven by a lady who usses it to haul hay for her horses , the 390 runs real strong and was soposedly rebuilt a few years ago and i beleive it because it ran real strong, shes the second owner . i think its worth the $500 canadain they are asking
if your looking for a daily driver, i think that everyone here pretty well covered everything, but my opinion, this will make a great truck for anything, daily driver or hot rod, 390's r great motors, 4 speeds r fun to drive, they r just great trucks
if i do buy it wich im 90% sure of im going to do the cab mounts mebey floor board do a paint job in my garage and just drive it, nothign to extensive.( im only 17 and i need a truck for work) and i love the looks of these things

A good start, go for it. Do it a little at a time and have fun, learn at the same time. Yes these are neat trucks and easy to work on.
Hey ah, 17.
67 -72 is definately a good choice for a ride.
But
If the cab has this rust, check one more thing: The drip rail around the roof.
If its got holes around the perimeter, you may want to pass. It will be leaking water like a seive into everything inside the cab! I know $500 aint much these days, but what you relaly want is a keeper, one that will last and you will be able to fix up into a nice truck.
On the other hand, you could look at this as a good price, for a 390 and parts.
Yes, my first truck was a 69, I was looking for a stepside. It was nice, but it did have that compromised drip rail on the roof. They are not easy to fix right and I would imagine expensive to do the bodywork, welding or whatever.
When I found my 67 with little rust, I knew I had a keeper. I dont know that i will ever get rid of it. Thing is there are alot of 67-72 trucks out there, alot with very good bodies, and still at good prices. Find a solid one and you will have something. jz
Make sure and lift up the Battery and the Battery hold down plate. Check for any holes caused by battery acid . Battery overfilling even if only just once could be enough to slowly create small holes initally at the very least!
Check the rag joint for wear or misalignment. Is the steering wheel down against the turn signal switch or is it starting to ride up?
Look at the gap between the doors and the front fenders. Is it wider at the bottom than the top.
That will tell you something about the shape of the cab mounts.
Rust where the hood hinges attach to the inner fenders.
Any cracked exhuast manifolds? them rusty bolts aren't fun to get out. But they are doable if you heat them first.
