Timing position help
I have recently rebuilt my 2.0L 4cyl. engine in my 1987 2wd ranger and i replaced the cam and all timing components and i did not make the positions on the crank and the cam and i need to know where to position them in order to put on the belt and have the correct timind position. Any help would be appricarted.

The camshaft sprocket should have a mark on it which aligns with a pointer on the engine case. The crank gear should line up with The TDC mark on the belt cover. Make sure both are in the right place with the belt installed before cranking the engine.

still could use some help
i have located the marks on both gears and the mark to line the crank up to. But i can not find a pointer or a mark on the block or head to line up the cam gvear with. isn't there a way to set it up by the position of the valves?

Not sure about yours but on my 1991, there is a mark for the camshaft not on the block itself but on the rear half of the timing belt cover. When the crankshaft was at TDC, the camshaft was pointing at approximately 5 o'clock.
