Instrument cluster
I just bought my son a 91 f 250 superduty 2 wd that was used a ranch truck. The problem I am having is that all the gauges don’t seem to work. The gas gauge is seems to be stuck at half for both tanks and none of the other gauges even move. Also the speedometer jumps up and down while he drives it. I thought I had fixed it but obviously I didn’t. Can anyone tell me if I need new gauges or if I can do something to fix these. I have looked everywhere to find information on this subject but can find anything.

Welcome to FTE. Before you buy new gauges, check the instrument voltage regulator on the back of the dash, assuming you have one. It is a small metal box about 5/8" x 1 1/2" with two snaps like a 9 volt smoke detector battery. It is not related to the speedo. Could have a bad bearing in the speedo. I hate electrical gremlins. Maybe someone else will have some better input. Good luck with it.

How many miles on the truck? Mine had a similar speedo problem. The pinion gear was fine but the nylon gear inside the output shaft housing was almost baby smooth. You have to pull the housing but that is just a matter of 5 or 6 bolts. That could be your prob.
