Thanks for allowing me to join your group. I have been a Ford person since early fifties.
First Ford was 36 ford five window coup, enjoyed racing Fords in my teens at Digney Speedway at Burnaby B.C. I have a project that I am working on, of course time and money being the limiter. My project is a 1969 Ford F-100 two wheel drive, with 83 300 stright six. Yes I am an old guy on the block.
I was born the year that Douglas Aircraft Company first flew the plane later called the Gooney Bird. The flying work horse of the second world war. I am going to stick with the 300 because I liked the milage, however I am open to suggestions for increasing both power and milage with this beast. In my younger days I loved the power of the original 360, and I had no problems with that engine. I have owned the truck since 1971, it was a work horse in its day for my service business, I was going to dispose of it but family said it was in the family for so long no one wanted me to part with it. Rusted beyond repair, being a metal-smith those metal repairs are almost done.
If you are a 1951 ford pickup owner, I must say I loved those pickups 48 -52, they were in service in my early teen years. In 1953 Ford changed to the new pickup style, I was working for a fellow who was some what crippled with polio, he bought a brand new 1953 Ford Pickup with the new for 1953 Automatic Transmission. I was of course the chief driver of the pickup and loved every moment of it. Within a thousand miles of buying it, he asked me to take it in to Mclennen Motors for the 1k service. About nine am I am in front of the T. Eaton store on Columbia Street in New Westminister, B.C. A young fellow pulls up beside me, he on the inside lane and I on the outside lane, he has a 1939 Chev Coupe that is all decked out for the period. He reves the engine, probably has a split manifold the six sounds good. He indicated a race was in order, I could see his every move from my higher position, he pulled his tranny into low with his three on the tree, I pulled my tranny into low as well, the light turned green, we both took off side by side, he shifted into second, forgetting i had an auto I jambed mine in reverse, boy what a lot of rubber burning. He was leaving me and I was just smoking it, finally I recognized my mistake. I got the pickup in for service, when we were picking it up, overheard the service manager telling my boss, never quite seen a transmission like that he said, that the first one we have had to change within the 1k. I never said a word, and was darn thankful no cops were around for the big race.
