Accelerator cable

I have a 1978 Ford F250 with the 351m in it, I ordered an accelerator cable from LMC and the one they gave me is the only one for 78-79 351m and it's not the right cable. I have a threaded bar attached to the accelerator pedal and I forgot what the original cable looked like cause it's been torn down for about 2yrs. If anyone know what the right cable is and where I can get it please respond back. Thanks

The only 73-79 ford trucks that used a "Cable" were 6 cyl models. Every truck I have owned from 66-79 had the threaded rod as you describe. That was OEM equipment on them. The only trucks with a cable I had was a 1966 F100 with 300 cyl and a 1979 F-100 with a 300 6 cyl.

Unless I am mistaken it's not the engine size but the year that determines whether a cable was original equipment. I am not sure which year it was that they switched to a cable but I'm pretty sure the 78 and 79 had a cable instead of the threaded rod.

My 79 f150 351m has a cable going from the pedal linkage to the carb. Pretty sure it's stock.

fearfactory, I think I have a spare in my parts box at home. I can pull it out and take some pix and/or measurements tonight.

my 78 F-250 351m has the bar style, i prefer that over the cable IMO, if you say it has the threaded bar on it, it doesnt need a cable, just a ball to snap the bar onto.......

you might try a carb shop, i bought a variety pack at oriellys that had several, it was more than i wanted to pay for such a little item($15), but the variety is helpfull because the holes on different carb linkages vary in size...you might even find one at a salvage yard for a few cents, it doesnt matter what type of carb as long as the throttle bar assembly is the same as yours......i believe they are all alike.....hope this helps......
