I have a 2001 eb 4x4 with the 5.4. It seems to drink about 1.5-2 quarts of oil between oil changes.(3000 miles) If it is 1.5 quarts low, it registers zero oil pressure, and the oil light comes on. My wife has drove it 1000 miles this way, with the oil light on and zero oil pressure (it is either at zero or 3/4 up the guage, there is no in-between) It did not seem to effect it. When it is cold, like 15 farenhiet and below, It seems to knock on startup. My question is, is this normal? The truck has 80,000 miles and runs awesome otherwise. It is driven 98% in the city. Thanks a lot! This is my first post.
Drinking oil eh?...i imagine you have checked for spots on the driveway to ensure you have no problems there? Do you have unusual dark exhaust? Sounds to me like the truck isnt drinking it but rather burning it.
My 00 EB seems to do the same thing, burns a good 1.5 quarts/litres ( canadian eh! ) Doesn't leak a drop, exhaust doesn't look dark and can't smell burning oil anywhere. My 91 5.0L did the same thing. It just uses oil. My 99 F-150 with the 5.4L also doesn't burn a drop. Kinda funny
