i have an 85 f-150 4 speed (with granny gear) 4x4. i think i may have hurt the transmission cause it maeks noise and have 3 speeds is irritating in and of itself, i have the opportunity to buy the following trans
88 FORD 5SPD TRANS, 4WD, standard, straight from 6 cyl motor for 150 pickup or Bronco
will it fit in my truck? and if so what would i have to do to get it to work, do i have to change the clutch? the driveshafts the bell housing what?
also how would this effect my towing ability, my truck SUCKS on the highway so i'm thinking that the 5 speed may help that and if it's a direct bolt in that would be great as well, but i dont' know if this has a granyn gear or at least somethign approaching one (i do tow pretty decent sized loads from time to time
Same splines & mounting bolt pattern for all '80-96 t-cases in all F-Series & Bronco. It's a bolt-in except you may have to move your crossmember forward/backward and have your driveshafts shortened/lengthened. You may also have to change your floorplate adapter for the shifter location.
i mean i tlacks power. the problem is that with eh granyn gear i have a 3 speed basically, so at 50-65 mph the rpms are too slow to have enough power to keep speed up even a slight hill (75 mph is better) and it's too high for 2nd gear. a 5 speed will ahve closer gear ratios than my 3 speed
