Help, I have to replace the engine in my 89 E350 (5.7l). Are there any good books that describe the removal of the engine?? I started it today and it is a little overwhelming,, no room to work, no heigth to lift the engine. How do you get the engine out???? Need help or a good book,,thanks ron..
Ron, I don't envy you, I pulled an engine from a 84 Chevy van once because I wanted the engine for something else. I had to disassemble the whole front, bumper, grill, Rad support, after all the front stuff was out of the way there was just enough space to get my hoist in there to pick the engine out. I have never tried to remove an engine from a Ford van, I am sure it is not easy. Hopefully someone who has tried this can help you. Maybe try posting the question in the E-series section.

Pull out the grill, and radiator. Then get a good SHORT chain for a LOW pull, pick the motor up and rock it to get it free of the motor mounts, then pull straight out... Whole process takes about 3 hours. Good news is you'll have it back in, in 45 minutes.
