Talking 6.0 Engine Oil

Just to let everybody know, I have been using rotella 15-40 for 25000 miles. I changed my oil today but I could not get the rotella. I heard on this site that the delo (chevron) oil was good so I switched and WOW , what a sound. As soon as i started the truck to get the oil in new filter, It sounded like a different truck. QUIETER, smoother running, all while chilly outside. I then went out to get fuel and once fully warmed up it was even more quiet. The whole motor sounds like it is running smoother. I could hardly even haer the motor with windows up while cruising. Maby my mileage will go up as well. I never thought an oil of the same weight could make that much of a difference. No more rotella for me.

I heard about the Delo making the motor quieter on another post a while back. I might give it a go at 30,000 if I don't get the Mobil Truck/SUV. Thanks for the info. Haven't gotten used to my truck sound since they Nixxed the PI with the OCT.flash in my 03. It is really louder when cold....almost sounds like a Cummins. I was parked next to an older 7.3 at the pump the other day, and I honestly wasn't sure if my truck was any quiter than his was. Sure is a big change from when I bought it. That was one of the reasons I got that truck, and not the 7.3. I didn't like the engine noise of the 7.3, especially at highway speed. Now, mine isn't much better that that, at least as far as I can hear.

I think that I had just the opposite experience. I've run Rotella-T 15W40 in my truck since new and tried Delo 400 on the last change because it was on sale at Costco.

The truck is slightly louder and doesn't idle quite as smoothly - oil level is on the lower 1/4 of the dipstick.

It will be interesting to compare the oil analysis from Blackstone on the next oil change and see what difference - if any - is reported.

guydiver12, i thought that you had to use a specific type of oil for the diesel engine??? but isnt the mobil truck/SUV meant for gas engines?? the reason i ask this is because i was told with the 7.3, you had to have an oil for diesel only because it contained a different additive

F250 diesel

The mobil truck and suv oil is rated for diesel engines. It has the rating on the bottle.

I have been using the Castrol RX 15-40 API CI-4 and switched to Delo 400 CI-4 and in my estimation, the engine was much louder. I was amazed. I went back to Rotella T synthetic. I haven't seen that much difference for the price. I am about to change oil and I bought the Castrol RX again.
