Sure - if you have enough gearing. In my opinion, 3.54s won't cut it(been there - done that). You need at least 3.90 to 4.11. You could increase the engine HP to compensate for stock gearing (3.54 or under) but I don't think you will be happy unless you do a gear swap.

I suggest 4.10 gears, That what I use on my 86' which has a 6" lift and 35" tires. The truck easily runs highway in ovedrive and has ungoddly power if you dump your foot into it, Allthough I run a modified 400, a 302 with comfortably give you decent throttle feel with 4.10 gears, and your speedo won't be way out of wack.

I put a 6" on my 85 and run 35's with no problem, but I do Highly recomend the use of super lift's radius arms if you don't want them to rub on the stock unit. Also super lift's super runner stearing kit completly eliminated the bump steer problem I had!!
