AOD Transmission swap

The AOD transmission in my 1990 Bronco with 5.0FI is slipping. First it was just in overdrive but now drive is going as well. How hard is it to use an AOD transmission from another Ford such as a Mustang, Crown Victoria, etc.? Is it difficult to convert it to the four wheel drive truck? Have any of you attempted (or succeeded) in rebuilding your AOD transmission? I've been a mechanic all my life, rebuilt many, many engines, manual transmissions, and untold numbers of other mechanical devices but I've never attempted to rebuild an automatic transmission before. Of course I'm going to try it but any help or suggestions would be more than welcome.

I was going to do the same job you are conquering at the moment, but I ran short on time and had to give in and buy a new transmission from Ford and have them install it. Soo...I have an AOD complete rebuild kit with all the parts you need...seals, gaskets, o-rings, clutch plates, steel plates, filter. The brand is TransTEC. Also, if you're interested I have the Haynes Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul Guide and an official ATSG AOD service manual for rebuilding the AOD transmission. It was all going to go into my 1988 Ford Bronco. Let me know if you're interested in buying the kits off of me for a REALLY decent price as I don't need them anymore and it would be next to impossible to find someone who needs them. I'm located in California...The rebuild kit's clutches and steel plates are Borg-Warner . I am looking for $120.00 which includes shipping costs for the rebuild kit and the manuals (which are in mint condition). I also have a shiftkit from TransGO I was going to install...I'd be willing to part with that for $30.00 more.

Is that TransTEC kit for an AOD? I was on there web site and could not find an application for an 88 Bronco. Is it unopened with all of the parts? Is the Transgo a shift kit or the reprogramer kit?

The rebuild kit is TransTEC and for AOD from 7/18/83 to 93. I opened the box to make sure all the parts were there. Everything is unopened as far as all of the parts are in their shrinkwrap or plastic bags. There is a part no. on the box 'P4700ALS'...but that might be a stock no. or similar for the company I bought it from.

The TransGO is a reprogramming kit.

Prevent/Correct These Complaints:

Direct Clutch Failure; 1-2 Slide or Slide Bump;
Soft 2-3; Slide Bump 2-3; No 4th; Late 4th;
4-3 Cutloose, Generally Sloppy Shift Quality.

What years is the Transgo kit for? Still new with instructions? If so, how much would you let just the shift kit and the official ATSG AOD service guide go for?

I see on your profile your Bronco is an 88, it will suit your transmission perfectly. $45 including shipping for the both of them...considering you ARE in the good ole' United States .

Well actually the AOD that I am going to be rebuilding is from an 82 truck. I was told that it was a late 82 so the AOD unit is an 83. Ya, I live in Las Vegas. Send me an e-mail and let me know how to work out payment and stuff. Thanks!

I had an 82 F-100, and I put a AOD from a Thunderbird in it. Seemed the same to me. I got it from Ford Green Leaf and I was told that it was the same.
