2000 7.3 ltr engine problem
Well today was the 5th time my 2000 Ford F-250 Diesel decided to act up. The problem engine wise feels like a miss, electrically the truck appears to turn off and then immediately turn back on in a brief second (all guages go to "0", all caution lights come on, and the radio turns down in volume). The problem started immediately after changing from a stock exhaust to a 4" turbo back exhaust. I was on a road trip and about on the 300th mile, ever since it has done this periodically but always when the truck has warmed up. I currently have a performance chip and intake installed as well. I just hope that all of these performance products I have installed havent burnt-up my computer and caused this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
By the way the problem never sets a hard engine light, so chances of finding the problem are that much harder!

I doubt it's related to the performance mods, I run a similar set-up. It sounds like the cam position sensor. I had same problem, just intermittent cutting out. If you have access to an OBD reader check for codes or go to Autozone or other parts store they will read them for free. Do a search on the forum for CPS and you'll get a bazillion results. It's a fairly common problem. A lot of guys carry a spare in their truck with a 10mm socket. I got mine new on ebay for $50. Ford part is about $180, International for same part is about $100. Good luck.

I have to disagree with the CPS on this one. Matt, you're saying the entire truck just shuts off for a split second? Heater fan too? Does the WTS light come on right afterward, as if you have turned the key off and then back on?
How about some loose battery connections, failing ignition switch, something along those lines.

It does happen in a split second. I checked the both batteries for their connections and one was slightly loose. So I tightned it and the problem returned. I also chked the voltage and got 12.6 out of one and 11.6 out of the other. I will see about doieng a diagnosis test and hope that it is something as simple as a CPS. I am an avionics technitian and I am scared that this problem is a wire grounding somewhere!
Thanks guys for your reccomendations.

sounds like you have a battery going bad and what its doing is shorting out internally causing a huge draw on the electrical system causing the truck to shut down. id run it down to the local parts store and have them test the batteries. could possible be a failing alternator also. or like quick said a ignition switch acting up.
