I Have A 1986 F350 Van With What Is Sapose To Be A 351m But Not To Sure . These Are The # I Got Off The Block By The Starter. D4ae-6015-aa7. Any Help Would Be Much Apretated.
engine usage might've been different in canada, the easiest way to tell the difference between the W and M is to look at the exhaust manifold bolts. they are in a straight line on a W and they are on a diagonals on an M.
D4AE is a legitimate casting code for a 400 engine and since they're the same block it's possible it's a 351M but very unlikely. I seriously doubt that they continued the 351M in Canada after it was phased out in the states. Even if the engine is stock it should've been a DxTE casting since it's in a truck. It's almost certainly a 351W. Check to see if the thermostat housing goes into the intake manifold or the block. If it goes into the manifold then it's a W.
