Did Ford build any F-series trucks with a 302 or 351w with a 6 speed tranny? I"m fixing an 85 F350 and installing a modified 300-6 which uses the same rear bolt pattern as the 302 and 351 windsors.
No factory six speeds. Though I guess you could use most any small block Ford tranny to your six, if it can handle the torque. FordSix.com lists a Tremec TKO (used to be called the 3550) 5-speed as a possible pickup swap (http://fordsix.com/trucktranny.htm). It's a popular hotrod Mustang tranny that will handle plenty of torque. About $2000, from my searches.
The NV4500 (nice granny/overdrive 5-speed) is a possible swap with an adapter plate. Used in Dodges and Chevys since ~1995. Probably an easy junkyard find.
Your factory choices are the ZF granny/overdrive 5-speed overdrive or one of several 4-speeds. ZF's are harder to come by.
Good luck. I'm weighing my tranny options as well.
Search sites for adapters for engine/transmission combos. Dick Cepek used to have adapters to convert older Toyota Landcruisers to 350cid Chevy installations. I'd bet with the plethora of hot rodders out there you could find one. Good luck, the 300-6 is an super motor.

The mustang 6-sp and the richmond gear aftermarket 6-sp can handle a fair amount of torque, but one has to take into consideration vehicle weight as well.
An NV5600 out of a dodge with a conversion kit would be a good option, at least the NV5600 came in 3/4 ton dodge pickups with the intention of heavy hauling... so it should withstand anything you put in front of it, in a heavy truck.
I believe Advance Adaptors makes an adaptor for this combination...
I googled around for this combination, and there was a company that sold everything you needed, including the NV5600, for about $3500. Couldn't find them though... not sure what happened here...
Though, all that aside, I see nothing wrong with mating a ZF-S420 5-sp to a 300, its one tough transmission and loves abuse. And it will bolt right onto your 300 (or 302, or 351) assuming you get the small block version of the tranny.
