Post broken timing gear

I was using a gear puller to remove my large timing gear and a chunk of the composite gear broke. I still need to get it off for replacment but I can't grab it with the puller anymore. It is on there extremely tight. It's a 300 6 on an F150.

Anybody else had this problem??? Any ideas?

I had this same thing happen with my truck. To prevent damge to the block, the cam must be removed from the engine. Pull the lifters, pushrods, and fuel pump (if carb'ed), then, through the holes in the gear, remove the plate holding the cam in the block. Using a hydraulic shop press, press the gear off. The plate will break, and is only available from a machine shop, as Ford no longer carries them, and none are made aftermarket. If you like, I can get you a plate for $10 plus shipping from a local machine shop. Once the gear is off, install the new plate, the cam, and put the gear on. Install the lifters, making sure they are in the original locations, pushrods, and you're good to go.
