Hey I was just wondering... to those of you who have george foreman grills, What kind of shape is it in about 1 year later? I kept mine VERY clean and never ever used a metal utencil on it and all the non stick surface got ruined... now I have to go get a new one... maybe I just over used mine or something LOL I prepared almost every meal on it.
I like the grill as fas as cooking goes, but within a short time the non-stick coating started peeling off. You could wash it and leave another bare spot.
I also got the cooker, or whatever it is called, and the coating comes off the pan easily too.
The units do what they are supposed to do very well. I just wish they would spring for a better surface. It makes me want to look at Hamiltom-Beach next time.
Maybe I should just take steel wool and take all the coating off. No bigger than it is it should not be too hard to clean.
actually my brother has one of the hamilton-beach grills and the coating peeled off way sooner than the GF. these Grills are awesome and i love them regardless
Mine is Sunbeam (I think) and the surface is fine after 2 yrs. I don't use it every day, maybe 3-4 times a week. The only thing I use to clean it is wet paper towels while its still warm.
I have a Sunbeam and the coating has come off the top. I used to use it almost daily. Now the food sticks to the top even when I spray it with Pam. It is larger than the George Foreman and cost only $19.95. Mine could have been because of the way that I was cleaning it. I was using dish sponge that had a bristol pad on it. Duh me, my fault.
I havethe small one one that is approximately three years old and it still works fine. I also have a big one about it year old and it is still fine too.
With Three teenagers in the house it is in constant use.
I don't think the way it's cleaned has anything to do with how long the non-stick lasts.
I don't have a GF grill but the non stick on my popcorn popper started coming off within weeks? well, it wasn't very long. These appliances are probably all made in china and use the same poor bonding process. Well, that' s my guess.
The coating on mine started to come off the first time it was used. It has beed cleaned with a damp cloth only, no metal abrasives. If it was not such a pain to clean I would use it more that I do.
Best appliance I have, but I am also a student. The coating on mine is fine, no peel or anything and it gets used alot. I just wipe it down with a paper towel when its still hot, cleans up easy, and its not hard on the surface.
Same here have had mine for a few years now and the coating is fine. My only gripe is they just came out with the removable grill so you can wash it easier............. I wish they had done that in the begining!
Trying to clean them was always my gripe with the GF grill but I love them. I'm going to buy a new one next week with the removable grill. My hope/expectation is that they'll start selling replacement grills for these new models, maybe $20 for a new set so you can just swap them out.
FWIW we got about 3 years out of our last one, almost using it daily.
I haven't had any problems with mine, but I always clean it when it's warm. My only complaint is that it gets too hot- it's burn chicken before it's cooked all the way through, unless I nuke it first.
