Could someone please tell me what year Ford started to put fuel injected 460's in their p/u? I've got a '79 that I am putting multi port fuel injection into and I would like to go with a tank setup for it (read return line). I think the frames were similiar, (I looked at a '80 3/4 ton and it looks very much like my '79 1 ton) correct me if I'm wrong. I'm thinking about getting a 38 gal. rear fuel tank for the '79 model year but getting the '85-86 sending unit for it. I think that's were the return line may go into the tank. Thanks in advance, Mike B.
You'll need a tank with the wide opening ('87-up) and the best pump to put in is the Fuel Delivery Module ('91-up). It doesn't require any external valving no matter how many tanks you hook into the system.
The first year for the 7.5L was '88, when everything went EFI.
85 was the first year for EFI on the 302, however, the 460 ran the low pressure in-tank pump from the dual pump EFI system from 85 on, it was called the hot fuel system, and has a return line. the 84's used it too, but, they had an oddball pump...
