I know someone that is selling a 302 out of a Lincoln Townscar or something like that, for $400, with tranny.. is this a good deal or not? And if I were to do this, I would have to get a body lift so tranny would clear the body right? And if I did that, would the driveshaft I had made for it work (stock one broke)? I also have 4wd, so wouldn't I have to also move the transfer case, causing my new driveshaft to be to long? I just need some info on this please.. thanks.
yes the engine will work you need to do some more research (v-8 ranger swap)on the swap before you take this on. it is fairly easy if you are mech. inclined. but does require some special swap specific stuff, oil filter relocator, headers, radiator, you will also need the computer and wiring harness from the donor car. I have done quite a few ranger swaps and they are identical to the BII. the trans you have will not work you will need to get a 4x4 a4od or e40d you can get an adapter to use your xfer case and drive shafts. there are www's out there that are specific to your ???? I wont post them in fear of getting swonked!
I just finished my 302 swap. I got my 302 out of a Lincoln Continental. You do need a dual sump oil pan (any fox chasis has one). I don't have a body lift on mine. I'm using a C4 and I have plenty of room in the tranny tunnel. I did have to upgrade to a B&M shifter though(no room for linkage). You can reuse you stock transfer case, but not sure what tranny is coming with the motor. I got my motor and tranny from a scrap yard and it cost me $125 for the motor and $75 for the tranny, so $400 seems a little high to me. I had a C5 in my bronco II and just swapped the output shaft into the C4 allowing me to bolt it right up the transfer case without the adapter. Don't forget about everything else you need for the swap. As I mentioned to anothe Member, just take a look in your engine compartment now and see what else you're gonna need...a cooling system, motor mounts, plumbing, headers, exhaust system, transfer case adapter if keeping your current transfer case. The swap itself is easy but you might want to think about making it easier by avoiding a computer altogether. Making everything run after the swap is easy if you keep it simple.
