[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Dec-02 AT 10:34 PM (EST)]2 things bothering me.
1. i took the truck out today and when i got it out of the garage i discovered an oily residue covering the outside of both front tires and rims. there is no oil leaking from the motor. i thought i might have driven through something, but those are the ONLY places that this residue is. it's not even on the back tires and it has been really dry around here for weeks.
2. brakes. if i hit the brakes hard enough to lock them up, only the front pass. side tire locks most of the time. seems to do it more when cold. wondering what could be done to get more braking to the rear wheels or if something is not working properly.
Your proportioning valve may be sticking, or gumming up if the fluid is contaminated. i had my old lincoln do this if i didn't drive it for a few days.
i don't have clue as to where that residue could have came from on your tires.
I'd have to say wheel grease on the tires, and do you have rear wheel anti-lock? Could also need to have the rear brakes adjusted, or frozen wheel cylinders, or a dozen other things. Take the drums off, and have a look.
