I'm looking for a mig welder. Am looking at either a Miller 135 or a Hobart 140, both owned by Illinois Tool works Company. Any input would be welcome including other suggestions. Hobby welder only, but want gas option.
I have the Miller 175, one size up from yours. I chose the Miller over the Hobart because the Miller has continuosly variable voltages and wire speeds and the Hobart had a set number of taps to select from.
I prefer the variable........
Personally I prefer Miller arc welders, but I can't say anything negative about Hobart (never used one). One to definitely stay away from is a Campbell Hausfeld - I was given one a few years ago as a gift and it prettymuch died on me within 2 months. The wire would seemingly always get caught up in the whip and the duty cycle light would go off after only a very short while (30 - 45 seconds). Very aggrivating to say the least.
We beat this to death before but i'll bite. I've had Hobart's, Lincoln's and Miller's, can't beat the Miller's. Get the largest you can afford then step up one higher model. Buy once instead of many upgrade times you'll be money ahead. Go for a 210 Miller or better yet a 251 with 30A spoolgun, that combo is one hella machine. I have hear of an exhaust system costing $300 in labor alone, my labor was free and I built my own exhaust system. Welders pay for themselves, get a good hood like a auto dark.
.....=o&o>.....
Thanks for the input everyone. I'm leaning towards the Miller because of the infinite voltage control. I want to stay with 115 v. so it will have to be the 135.
