Smile Replacement Radiator HELP

Hello Everyone,

Well, my radiator finally died in my '66 F-100 (240 engine, manual transmission, 2 WD, no AC, no PS). I am having a terrible time finding a radiator that bolts up properly with the hose fittings in the proper positions. The original radiator has a core measurement of 18 1/4 x 18 1/4, give or take a few 1/16ths. The engineering number on the radiator is C6TA-AD2. I crossed this number for a Ford part number and came up with C6TZ8005F (hope this is the correct part number?). My radiator has both hose fittings on the passanger side. The fill spout is in the center. The only new radiators I can find with the 18 1/4 x 18 1/4 core dimensions have the upper hose fitting on the drivers side and the bottom hose fitting on the passanger side. Has anyone had one of these types of radiators in their vehicle (both hose fittings on the passanger side)? If so, have you replaced the radiator with a radiatior of the same hose fitting configuration? Right now it looks as if I'm going to have to go to the newer hose configuration (upper hose fitting on the drivers side) in order to replace the radiator (I believe this configuration was used in the 1972-73 F-100s with 240s). I assume that a formed hose is available for this configuration as I do not want to go to a flex hose. Any thoughts or experiences you have regarding this issue are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gatsby

I was in a accident last year and had to purchase a new radiator. I went to a local radiator shop and he was able to match it perfectly with a brand new radiator. You might also want to try some of the web sites out there that sell radiators like radiators.com

Good luck

Thought would add my $.02. Strongly suggest taking the radiator to a good shop and having it recored/reconditioned; or as jd suggested, having shop match yours. Have two 65's with 2 different radiator supports. Did not find it difficult finding radiator for 65 with the V8, but did for the 65 with the 6 cylinder. Not sure if has to do w/ engine size, perhaps more knowledgeable member can address. There are front and rear mounted radiator flanges. On the 65 w/ 6 cylinder, had to find a front flange mounted radiator that would set inside the radiator support housing. Found couple that looked same but would not quite fit. May be different with your setup. Had i known then what know now, would have taken the old radiator and had it recored.

I thought somewhere in a similar topic it was determined that basically the 65 models had a completely different mounting flange that the 66's. I don't think engine size effects radiator size with the possible exception of the number of rows of cooling tubes.

Well, I have a 66, so I don't know about the 65, and I really didn't want to spend the money to have a 40 year old radiator cored. I just bought a new radiator that fits a 72 F-100 running a 240. The upper hose is on the drivers side (my old radiator had it on the passanger side). I Bought the formed upper hose that fits the 72 F-100 also. It looks like this radiator is going to bolt right up. Haven't measured anything but the core, but the brackets look just like the ones on my older radiator, even the bolt pattern. I Will probably put the radiator in this weekend if my "Honey Do" list doesn't get too long. I'll let you know how it goes in case anyone else ever runs into this problem.

i have a 65 F-100 300ci & tried all the local parts places for a radiator. Nobody had anything beyond 66. I finally obtained a 66 radiator from the local radiator shop for $149, which was the cheapest price. There was quite a difference between prices. I did have to drill 2 holes at the bottom in the mounting shroud to install it because the mounting holes were different, but it has worked fine for 4 years.

Well, i put the radiator in my '66 (240 engine, manual transmission, no AC, power steering, etc.) out of a '72 F-100 (240 engine, manual transmission, no AC). It worked perfectly, bolt holes were the same and everything (Keep in mind that both of these trucks had the 18 1/2 X 18 1/2 core size radiators). I bought the formed upper hose that fits a '72 F-100 also. Had to trim both ends of it, but other than that evertyhing was a perfect replacement. Thanks for everyones comments and suggestions regarding my radiator dilemma.

From: Home, at last!
Local shop recored mine with a different hose configuration. Used a coat hanger to create the "new" configuration and went shopping for hoses that fit. Took a little while to find one but all is well.
