I ain't as old as some of you guys, so here's what I remember.
Pop came in glass bottles. Juice came in cans with a peel back opening. Beer came in "stubbies". Rotary phones. The tv remote was me changing the channel for my dad. Every house in the neighbourhood had tv antennas on their roof. Betamax. You could go to the corner store and buy smokes for your parents.
Pop came in 7oz & 16 oz bottles.
Lassie was just born.
Gasoline was gravity fed to vehicles.
Golf ***** were round (without dimples).
Golf clubs had names, not numbers
Bus rides for 14 & under was a nickle (14-21 was a dime.)

And how many of you had grandparents that kept a potty under the seat for the grandkids?
I'm getting too old for this thread- back to you.
The burma shave road signs, I forgot about those, man this is a good thread.
I bet everyone that replies to this thread remembers how good it used to be, it really was a better time. I wish everyone now could know how it used to be.
How about those big , round "enjoy Coca-Cola" signs that weighed about 50 lbs that kids used to use for toboggans? (they went like heck!!)
Blue and green Coke bottles
Hardware stores with wood floors that creaked when you walked on them and one guy running the place, selling stock that had been there for at least 20 years before. And he knew where every tiny little pin was in the place.
Twin I beam truck ads, running over railroad beds
The Mercury Marquis ad, where the guy in the back seat splits a diamond while riding down a bumpy road.
Those Volkswagen print ads, where some guy traded in his Rolls-Royce on a Bug

What abought some of those old forgot about cars. When I was small my dad had a Renault. After all my cuts and bruises were healed, I was glad he rolled it that day. Then we got a 56 Ford, and I have loved fords every since.
how about a pojo diesel with 4 on the tree, our haveing to back a tractor up a hill backwards because the carb was gravity fed. and how about the sound of a now rare p51 mustang or corsair rotary

thought of another one, how about when some phone lines were party lines.
I am only 16 and my friends and 1 all agree that i was born 50 years too late, i spend my days looking Aand learning all about the old days with my grandma, i love the old cars and trucks , and especially the music. This craving all started growing up driving around with my dad in his '65 galaxie 500 listening to the beach boys (my first favourite band) and all the other gold oldies. I spend my nights now watching tv land and deja view where all the old shows come on ( gentle ben is still cool too). My favourite shows are Get Smart , Happy Days , The Brady Bunch, and now I followe the Fugitive.
I wasn't there but i can still appreciaite and be thankful theres enough people to keep the spirit of the ol' days alive.

Thanks for the memories guys. What a way to start the new year . Those were the days of my youth as well and only the good old days because our expectations were based in reality and something like and X Box or a Remote Control Toy was something an adult with a job could afford .
We bought our first vehicles for less than some of today's toys are worth and speaking of vehicles , I remember the ones we could repair and maintain in our driveway with a standard set of tools and could expect them to last 10 or 15 years without multiple callbacks for design errors if looked after .
I remember them well that is why I'm still driving nothing newer than '86 and never will . I accept the changes that are good for me and society and reject those that are simply marketing scams for the masses .
No seat belt or only lap belts.
